Hello!
I think I got it figured out why some of you were not getting these emails. However I am not sure how it happened. Hahaha
Next week is a short week so I am not sure there will be an email but I will see. I am leaving for a short trip early early Thursday. I will be back on Monday though so I will not
miss any days. :).
Science: The kids took the Water Cycle test this week. They did awesome!! Monday some of the kids will be presenting their Water Cycle projects. They are due on Wednesday. Some will be presenting on Tuesday, and then the rest on Wednesday. States of Matter will be next. They will definitely need to study a few days for this test. It will be more difficult than the Water Cycle.
On Wednesday we will have our Valentines party and we will be playing bingo with our first grade book buddies.
The kids want to finish our movie that we didn’t at Christmas time. Hahaha. Lion King. So we will also be doing that.
Reading: We did another Scholastic News this week and next week I am going to introduce them to Greek Mythology. We will be researching some Greek Gods and monsters and then we will start reading Percy Jackson.
NO SPELLING NEXT WEEK
Math: We are continuing with multiplication. I told the kids to play the game from last week only use a 3 digit by 1 digit and go to 3,000 points. This will really help them with the test coming up. Also the ones that are still trying to pass division need to really start hitting it hard so they can be ready for long division. PLEASE HELP THEM OR ENCOURAGE THEM TO PRACTICE. THANK YOU
That is pretty much it in a nutshell. Have a super weekend!! Stay warm.
Ms. Pfeffer
I will be asking the families that I see next week at conferences if you want me to put these notes on the Weebly site or if you like getting it by email. I have some that said they don’t check their emails, so am wondering if the Weebly would be any better.
https://pfeffer4.weebly.com Here it is. It also has great review ideas for each subject and games for math to play.

Ms. Pfeffer's Flexible Seating room!
Come to our class and you may think you have just entered Caribou. Without the coffee :( ha We are trying something new. I have been reading up on Flexible Seating in the classroom. Studies show that this type of seating invites collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking by helping students manage their physical surroundings or seating. You can check out this site where one teacher gives her opinion of how it is working in her room. https://www.edutopia.org/blog/flexible-seating-student-centered-classroom-kayla-delzer. This is part of what the article stated: What the Research Says Everything I do in my classroom is based on research and best practices for kids. Redesigning my classroom was not any different. I've found that some of the immediate benefits (PDF) of flexible seating include burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture. It's no surprise that physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior. In fact, a paper by Matthew T. Mahar, et al (PDF) finds that:
Simple in-class activities can boost performance. Studies suggest that children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the best improvement seen in students who are least on-task initially.
I tried this last year for the last 6 weeks to see what the kids thought. They were very excited. We discussed what was good and what they didn't liked about it. Everyone but one said they liked the change. :)
This is what was shared:
POSITIVES:
I like to work in comfy seats.
It helps me learn better because you don’t talk as much.
You get the chance to see what seat helps you learn best.
It makes my back feel better sitting in the fun chair.
It makes me feel more organized without having the stuff in my desk.
We don’t have desks to keep clean.
I like how you sink in the pillows.
I like the lowered table.
Everyone seems happier going to school.
It makes learning fun. Along with the fun teacher! (Ok maybe they didn’t say that. Ha)
We will have a community set of scissors, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks and bottles of glue.
